Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *buditi. Causative of бдеть (bdetʹ). Cognate to Ancient Greek πυνθάνομαι (punthánomai), Sanskrit बुद्ध (buddha) (whence Russian Бу́дда (Búdda, Buddha)), German bieten.
