[edit]According to Veršinin, of possible onomatopoetic origin. He compares Udmurt ворттыны (vorttyny, “to carry around”), вырыны (vyryny, “to move”), Tundra Nenets вӑрнӑ-сь (wărnă-sʹ°, “to run, scurry [of small animals, birds]”).[1]
