Inherited from Koine Greek ὡριμάζω (hōrimázō). For the figurative sense, semantic loan from French mûrir.[1]

ωριμάζω (orimázo) (past ωρίμασα, passive —, ppp ωριμασμένος)

  1. (intransitive) ripen, literally: I become ripe
    ωριμάζουν οι καρποίorimázoun oi karpoíthe fruits (sense: products of plants) ripen
  2. (figurative)
    1. (intransitive and transitive) mature, literally:
      1. I become mature
        Ωρίμασα μετά από τόση πείρα.
        Orímasa metá apó tósi peíra.
        I have matured after so much/(long) experience.
      2. I make someone mature
        Οι εμπειρίες της ζωής με ωρίμασαν.
        Oi empeiríes tis zoḯs me orímasan.
        Life's experience(s) matured me. (made me more mature).
    2. (intransitive) I come of age
    3. (intransitive, of a procedure) I become completed
      Η σκέψη του δεν έχει ωριμάσει ακόμη.
      I sképsi tou den échei orimásei akómi.
      His thought/(mental activity) has not ripened yet.
