A nominal formation from τᾰμεῖν (tameîn, to cut up, divide), active infinitive aorist form of τέμνω (témnō, to cut, hew), though the exact morphological details are unclear. May be analyzed as τέμνω (témnō) +‎ -ῐ́ᾱς (-íās).[1]
