Etymology

Inherited from Koine Greek στεφανῶ (stephanô) in the sense 'to marry' and learned borrowing from Ancient Greek στεφανῶ (stephanô) in the sense 'to crown/wreathe'.[1] By surface analysis, στέφανος (stéfanos) or στεφάνι (stefáni) +‎ -ώνω (-óno).
