[edit]Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek μεγαλομάρτυρα (megalomártura), accusative singular of μεγαλομάρτυς (megalomártus).[1] By surface analysis, μεγαλο- (“great”) + μάρτυρας (“martyr; witness”).
