Etymology

[edit]

Learned borrowing from Koine Greek κόμμω(σις) (kómmō(sis), sophisticated treatment) + modern suffix -ση (-si).[1] The traditional connection to κόμη (kómē, hair of the head) appears to be folk etymology.
