Etymology

Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἐκτάκτως (ektáktōs, separately) with semantic adaptation to the modern meaning of έκτακτος (éktaktos).[1] By surface analysis, έκτακτ(ος) (éktakt(os)) +‎ -ως (-os).
