[edit]Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἀγένειος (agéneios, “beardless, boyish”) from privative ἀ- (“not”) + γένειον (géneion, “beard”).[1] By surface analysis, α- + γένι (“beard in Modern Greek”).
