[edit]Via other European languages (probably French gesticuler), ultimately borrowed from Latin gesticulari (“to gesticulate”), from gesticulus (“mimic gesture”), the diminutive of gestus (“gesture”), a noun related to the verb gerō (“to bear, to carry”).
