Etymology

From Proto-Romani *čhavo, from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀙𑀸𑀯 (chāva, baby animal),[1][2] from Sanskrit *छाप (chāpa).[1][2] Cognate with Pali chāpa (the young of an animal), Marathi छावा (chāvā, cub) and Bengali ছা (cha, the young of an animal, infant child).
