[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘔𑘰𑘪𑘰 (chāvā, “baby animal”), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀙𑀸𑀯 (chāva, “baby animal”), from Sanskrit शावक (śāvaka, “the young of any animal”).
