Etymology

Inherited from Sanskrit डोम्बिनी (ḍombinī), feminine of डोम्ब (ḍomba). By surface analysis, rrom (Romani man) +‎ -ni (feminine suffix). Cognate with Hindustani ڈومنی / डोमनी (ḍomnī), Marwari डूमणी (ḍūmṇī), and Punjabi ڈومنی / ਡੂਮਣੀ (ḍūmṇī)
