From Proto-Norse ᚦᚨᛁᛉᛟ (þaiʀo /⁠þaizō⁠/), from Proto-Germanic *þaizǭ, genitive plural of *sa (that). Cognate with Old English þāra, Old Saxon thero, Gothic 𐌸𐌹𐌶𐌴 (þizē).
