- to winter, to overwinter (to stay, to continue living somewhere during winter; to spend the winter somewhere)
- bites šogad labi ziemojuasš ― the bees have wintered well this year
- zināmas apmēram 420 vietas, kur regulāri vai neregulāri ziemo pīles ― 420 places are known where ducks regularly or irregularly winter
- gulbji neiet projām, gulbji paliek ziemot ― swans do not go away, swans stay for the winter (lit. stay to winter)
- ekspedicija ziemoja pola tuvumā ― the expedition spent the winter near the pole
- (of plants) to winter, to overwinter (to keep the capacity to grow during winter)
- ziemojošas lauksaimniecības kultūras ― overwintering crops
- sīpoli labi ziemo, ja tiem līdz salam paspējušas izveidoties saknes ― onions winter well, if they had time to develop roots before (the time of) frosts
