[edit]From yōliliztli (“life”) + tlaxcalli (“bread”), a calque of Spanish pan de vida, from Ecclesiastical Latin pānis vītae, itself a calque of Ancient Greek ἄρτος τῆς ζωῆς (ártos tês zōês, “bread of life”)), an expression found in the Bread of Life discourse in John 6:22–59.
