[edit]From Middle Dutch vliën (“to arrange, to organize, to give something its place”), from Proto-West Germanic *flīhan, of unknown ultimate origin; possibly related to the root of *flaihijan (“to be sly, to flatter”), though the semantic gap is wide.[1]
