[edit]From the vill- stem of villám, further derived as villam (electricity) + -os. Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries. [1] The sense of "tram" is an ellipsis of villamosvasút (electrified railway), compare Slovak električka.
