Etymology

From Proto-Vietic *tʰuːlʔ. This is the form from the North Central dialects of Thanh Hoá, where *-l > /n/ is common. Compare Thanh Hoá North Central đướn vs. Nghệ Tĩnh, Bình Trị Thiên đưới vs. Northern-Southern dưới.
