From Ottoman Turkish تپمك (tepmek, to kick, dance), دپمك (depmek), from Old Anatolian Turkish دپمك (depmek), from Proto-Turkic *tep-.[1] Related to Old Turkic [script needed] (tep-, to hit, kick).[2]
