Etymology

[edit]

Possibly szeg +‎ -ődik (verb-forming suffix), though it is uncertain, as the derivation may have taken place earlier than the semantic change of the supposed base verb ’to break > to bend, curve; to change direction > to turn > to join someone’.[1]
