Vietnamese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Sino-Vietnamese word from 率. Compare Mandarin 率 (lǜ, luật, “rate”), Mandarin 率 (shuò, suất; shuài, soái, “to lead”), Japanese 率 (ritsu, luật, “rate”).
The reading with ‹l-› is completely unused within Vietnamese, although theoretically, the character can be read as luật. This contrast with Chinese and the other Sino-Xenic languages, where the character has multiple readings in use.
