[edit]From Ottoman Turkish سوپورندی (süpüründü, “sweepings, rubbish, rabble”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish سوپورمك (süpürmek, “to sweep, to brush clothes”), from Proto-Turkic *sipür- (“to sweep”),[2][3] morphologically süpür- + -ün + tü.
