[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese renger, from Latin ringere (“to show one's teeth, to gape”), from Latin ringor (“I show my teeth, I gape”) (compare Latin rictus). Cognate with Portuguese ranger and Spanish reñir (“to scold, to quarrel”).
