German

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Uncertain. Perhaps from dialectal Reide (a turning, bend, twist, change) +‎ -ig, or from Middle High German reide, reit (twisted, curled), from Old High German reid (curly, frizzy, fierce), from Proto-West Germanic *wraiþ (angry, hostile) +‎ -ig.

Adjective
