Inherited from Sanskrit रक्षति (rákṣati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrákšati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂lékseti. Cognate with Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀇 (rakkhaï).
