Etymology

pitkäpiimä +‎ -inen or pitkä +‎ piimä +‎ -inen. Either derived from pitkäpiimä, a cultured dairy product which, when poured, is difficult to cut in the same way as e.g. honey or syrup, or more likely from an older sense, used to refer to a cow that took a long time to milk.
