Appendix:Finnish declension/nainen
Appearance
Kotus type 38 (nainen) | NSK type 63 (hevonen) |
---|
Nominals ending with ⟨-nen⟩, such as adjectives formed with the suffixes -inen and -lainen, nouns formed using the suffix -nen and action nouns (nouns derived from verbs with -minen); all can be traced back to the suffix -(i)nen.
No consonant gradation.
Inflectional stem replaces ⟨-nen⟩ with ⟨-se-⟩. Final ⟨-e-⟩ of stem is dropped before the plural marker ⟨-i-⟩, and the partitive singular and genitive plural suffixes ⟨-ta⟩/⟨-tä⟩ and ⟨-ten⟩/⟨-en⟩.
Unusually, type 38 nominals also have special combining forms used in compounds whenever they are not the final component. The final ⟨-nen⟩ is replaced with ⟨-s-⟩. See -inen for more information.
