Noun

[edit]

pilaki (definite accusative pilakiyi, plural pilakiler)

  1. A dish of (usually) beans or seafood, cooked in a savoury sauce of tomato paste, chopped onions, garlic and typically chopped carrots and potatoes, sauteed in olive oil, served cold.

Usage notes

[edit]

In compound nouns of which this term is the head and the modifier is a term for the main ingredient, the head does (unlike what is usual in Turkish compound nouns) not take the possessive form. For example, a pilaki based on borlotti beans is called barbunya pilaki, not *barbunya pilakisi.
