Pastry and bread sense debated;

  • Either named after opera singer Angelica Catalani (1780–1849).
  • Or an unknown connection with the Spanish region Catalonia.
  • Or named after an Italian-born unidentified Norrköping baker allegedly named Alfred Catalani.
