[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قبوق (ḳabuḳ, “bark, rind, the skin or peel of a fruit, shell”),[1] from Proto-Turkic *kāpuk (“bark, shell”)[2] from Proto-Turkic *kāp- (“to surround”),[3][4] equivalent to kap + -uk.
