[edit]From Proto-Finnic *kaak'attadak, of onomatopoeic origin. Cognate to Finnish kaakattaa and Ingrian kaakattaa. Compare also Northern Sami gahkkat, gahkkit (“to cackle”), and dialectal Latvian kākāt (“to cackle”).
