Etymology
[edit]From Old Anatolian Turkish گرك (gäräk), ultimately from Proto-Turkic *kẹrge- (“need”),[1] whence also Azerbaijani gərəkmək. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰚𐰼𐰏𐰚 (kergek /kr²gk/).[2]
