[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish گورلدی (gürüldü, gürültü, “loud noise of any kind”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish گور (gür, onomatopoeic word for gurgling, rumbling or thunder noise),[2] morphologically gür + -ül + -tü. Cognate with Turkmen gürrüldi (“noise”).
