From Ottoman Turkish كور (gür), from Common Turkic [Term?] (compare Kipchak [script needed] (gür, sturdy person, thick, strong), Old Turkic 𐰚𐰇𐰼 (kür, bully, to be able to, valiant)), from Proto-Turkic *kü- (to force, to be powerful). Related to güç (strength; difficult).
