[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish كوتری (götürü), from گوتورمك (götürmek), from Proto-Turkic *kötür- (“to lift”),[1] from *köt- (“to rise, to raise”),[2] morphologically götür- + -ü (deverbal nominal suffix). Cognates with Azerbaijani götürə, Uyghur كۆتۈرە (kötüre).
