[edit]From Ottoman Turkish كوكل, گوڭل (göñül), from Old Turkic 𐰚𐰇𐰭𐰠 (köŋül), from Proto-Turkic *köŋül (“heart, mood”). Cognate with Azerbaijani könül, Bashkir күңел (küñel), Kazakh көңіл (köñıl), Uyghur كۆڭۈل (kö'ngül) and Yakut көҥүл (köñül).
