Etymology
[edit]From Old Turkic 𐰚𐰇𐰭𐰠 (köŋül), from Proto-Turkic *köyŋ-il (“heart, mood”). Cognate with Crimean Tatar göñül or köñül (Northern Dialect), Turkmen göwün, Gagauz gön, Uzbek koʻngil, Uyghur كۆڭۈل (kö'ngül), Bashkir and Tatar күңел (küñel), Yakut көҥүл (köñül, “will, freedom”), Dolgan көҥүл (“permission”), Chuvash кӑмӑл (kămăl).
