esfachar
Appearance
Galician
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. The possibilities include:
- A possible Vulgar Latin *exfaciāre, from ex- + faciēs + -āre (literally "deface"), whence Italian sfacciare and Old French esfacier. This, however, would not explain the Galician word's /tʃ/ (the expected result would have been *esfaçar).
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]esfachar (first-person singular present esfacho, first-person singular preterite esfachei, past participle esfachado)
- (transitive) to smash
- Synonym: escachar
