[edit]Unknown origin.
Possibly borrowed from French duc d’Albe (“Duke of Alba”), referring to Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, 3rd Duke of Alba, who is said to have used them in the 16th century. However; according to SAOB this is a questionable claim, and the Nationalencyklopedin say it is folk etymological.

- Wid entreprenade Auktion, ſom foͤrraͤttas haͤrſtaͤdes Fredagen den 11 dennes kl. 11 f. m. kommer uppfoͤrandet af en ny Duc d'Albe foͤr Poſt-Jakten i Klintehamn att till den minſtbjudande oͤfwerelåtas; aͤfwenſom, wid ſamma tillfaͤlle, borttagandet af den gamla Duc d'Albens qwarlemningar utropas.
- At the contract auction, which is held on Friday, the 11th of this month at 11 a.m. the construction of a new dolphin for the post yacht in Klintehamn will be awarded to the lowest bidder; although, on the same occasion, the removal of the remains of the old dolphin is proclaimed.
