Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish بقله (baḳla, “a single specimen or species of any succulent plant, broad bean, a link of a chain”), from Arabic بَقْلة (baqla, “grain of various plants”), which was derived from Arabic بَقْل (baql, “all kinds of herbaceous plant or vegetable”), combined with the suffixes -gil (denoting family) and -ler (denoting plurality) which is an eroded form of the suffixes -ın + -ki + -ler.
