[edit]Etymology
[edit]First part a- + a-, from Greek α- (a-, “a-, an-, in-, un-, -less”), from Ancient Greek ἀ- (a-, “not, without”), from Proto-Hellenic *ə- (“un-, not; without, lacking”), from Proto-Indo-European *n̥- (“not, un-”). Second part men from Ancient Greek μήν (mḗn, “not, without”), from Proto-Hellenic *méns (“month, visible moon”), from Proto-Indo-European *mḗh₁n̥s (“moon, month”), from earlier *méh₁n̥ss, probably from *meh₁- (“to measure”). Last part oré from Ancient Greek -ροια (-roia, “flowing”), from ῥέειν (rhéein, “to flow”).
