[edit]question mark (Check: R, G, H, W, Y) Would the particle make the cut, question mark? – Minh Nguyễn 💬 07:23, 21 September 2024 (UTC)— @Mxn: I'm afraid not, as this entry was featured as WOTD on 24 September 2020. Do check before nominating. — Sgconlaw (talk) 17:22, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- @Sgconlaw: Ah, my mistake, I thought each part of speech was considered separately. Thanks for clarifying. Minh Nguyễn 💬 20:03, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Mxn: no worries. We have more than enough nominations of entries for WOTD, so we try not to feature entries which have been featured before unless there is a very good reason (for example, if we were to have a punctuation theme, we might want to feature question mark again). — Sgconlaw (talk) 20:07, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]- [Nominated for 25 February: death anniversary of Aaron Bushnell]: complicity in genocide (Check: R, G, H, W, Y) Par âpre aux astres (talk) 12:53, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Par âpre aux astres: I think this will be too politically sensitive for the Main Page. — Sgconlaw (talk) 22:04, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe it's a bit sensitive. But political? Nah. Aaron Bushnell didn't lit himself up by saying "damn liberals!" or "right wing nutjobs!", he said "I do not want to be complicit in the genocide". Look, Israel is at the very least attempting to erase a part or whole of Palestinian population, so it's relevant. This might be sensitive, because it's about human rights, but it doesn't have to be about political alignment as well. Par âpre aux astres (talk) 22:17, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Par âpre aux astres: this would probably be the sort of nomination which, if featured, we get complaints about, so I would generally avoid it. Feel free to discuss the issue at the Beer Parlour if you wish. — Sgconlaw (talk) 22:42, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, while I don't agree with, I do understand that why you may want to avoid complaints. One thing though, what kind of complaints are we talking about exactly? Par âpre aux astres (talk) 22:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Par âpre aux astres: we get irate messages on the feedback page and elsewhere along the lines of “I can’t believe you’ve featured X as WOTD! Are you leftist/racist/sexist/etc.??” You get the idea. — Sgconlaw (talk) 23:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I got it. I think I might check that parlour thing. Par âpre aux astres (talk) 23:25, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

What goes around comes around. -- Good word for any Scottish day you like. Burns night is in a couple of day's time?? -- ALGRIF talk 07:51, 22 January 2024 (UTC)— set for 25 January 2025 (Burns night). — Sgconlaw (talk) 22:41, 19 January 2025 (UTC)faxx (Check: R, G, H, W, Y) Heyandwhoa (talk) 23:59, 20 January 2024 (UTC)- @Heyandwhoa: this one’s just an alternative form as well. — Sgconlaw (talk) 13:40, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
lamedh (Check: R, G, H, W, Y) Alternative form of "lamed". If you think it's the word "lame," it's not. Heyandwhoa (talk) 23:31, 20 January 2024 (UTC)- @Heyandwhoa: we don’t usually feature non-lemma forms like alternative forms or inflections. — Sgconlaw (talk) 04:01, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Heyandwhoa It's not a good idea to nominate words just because they're unusual or amusing. The goal is to feature words that are actually worth learning. Out of your nominations, I like cred, empurple, and dek. Ioaxxere (talk) 05:34, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- There has been 46 nominations in 21 days this year, over double what is needed to replenish stocks. DonnanZ (talk) 10:52, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
