Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 06:51, 23 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Japanese definitions needed

[edit]

You could have a look at this list, especially at the kanji compound words. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 01:57, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

My English is poor, so it is difficult to describe definitions for me...sorry. Tsukuyone (talk) 11:35, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Category:Japanese collective nouns

[edit]

Hello, I have a question for you: Is the term 植木 a collective noun? Or is it something else? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 06:58, 28 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

植木 means a garden plant or a potted plant, so I think it is not a collective noun. Tsukuyone (talk) 07:23, 28 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Japanese pronunciations

[edit]

Hello Tsukuyone --

Thank you for adding pitch accent information to Japanese placename entries, such as 宇都宮 and 大津! I greatly appreciate it.

I did notice that you're using an older style of wiki markup. You might find it useful to use the {{ja-pron}} template instead, as this simplifies the process of entering pronunciation information. Have a look at this diff of the 宇都宮 entry, or this one for the 大津 entry, to get an idea of how to use this template. You can also have a look at Template:ja-pron to read the documentation.

Hope this helps! ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │ Tala við mig 08:34, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for giving me nice template. From now on I'll use it. Tsukuyone (talk) 09:02, 24 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Japanese pronunciations

[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for adding Japanese pronunciations. Could you also add |y=o or (or k, ok, ko) parameter as well, please? E.g. {{ja-pron|きゅうきゅうしゃ|acc=3|acc_ref=NHK|y=o}} --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:32, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Atitarev. From now on I'll add the parameter, thank you. Tsukuyone (talk) 07:44, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

オランダ

[edit]

Why have you removed the audio file? — TAKASUGI Shinji (talk) 14:15, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

日本語で失礼します。こちらも疑問なのですが、このオーディオファイルはどのような意味があるのでしょうか?私はmacのパソコンから見ていますが、「Audio」と書かれているだけで音声ファイルには何もリンクしていないように見えます。意味が無いように見えたので削除しましたが、私の知識不足でしたら申し訳ありません。 Tsukuyone (talk) 13:21, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for English. Even if the file doesn't work on your Mac, it's a good idea to ask others why the file can't be played or think about users of other operating systems. :) BTW, I can now play the ogg files on iPad as well, after downloading VLC player, a bit awkward but it's okey. It may work for Macs as well. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 13:56, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear, Tsukuyone. Ogg audio files work like a charm in most systems and it's open source. Please don't be disappointed that if you are not familiar with ogg audio files. Never forget that those ogg audio files are the "heart" of Wiktionary's audio service. Thank you. --KoreanQuoter (talk) 15:01, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

皆様返信ありがとうございます。編集に配慮が欠けた部分であったことをお詫びします。今後は削除せずに編集します。 Tsukuyone (talk) 14:06, 15 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

漢字表記 / Kanji spellings

[edit]

(日英両方で書きます / Writing in both English and Japanese)

In this edit, you added "obsolete". The "obsolete" label here on the English Wiktionary conveys that "no one uses this anymore". For certain, I only rarely encounter the kanji spellings of オランダ, but when searching Google Books, the kanji spelling shows up in books written since 2000, so the "rare" label seems better than "obsolete". I have therefore changed the labels in the 阿蘭陀, 和蘭陀, and 和蘭 entries. I also added Usage notes to clarify the rarity of the spellings. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:14, 2 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

日本語でありがとうございます。"obsolete" か "rare"かという判断は非常に難しいと感じます。阿蘭陀、和蘭陀、和蘭はメディアでは既に一切使われることのない表記ですが、これをオランダと読むという知識を持った人は大勢居ます。「もう誰も使わないが、知識として持っている人は多い」というのが現状です。その他の外国地名に対する漢字表記も同様です。難しいところですが、 "rare"で良いと思います。Tsukuyone (talk) 10:28, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
