[edit]Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Single-kanji abbreviations of country names
[edit]Hello Young Prussian, I have reverted your edits to single-kanji entries that added incorrect readings. 新 is not read as Shingapōru -- it is read as Shin, and used as an abbreviation. Just as "US" is not read as "United States", it is read as /ju es/, and it is used as an abbreviation for "United States". Similarly, 仏 is short for フランス, but it is not read as フランス. And so forth.
In general, we advise editors to work on entries for terms in languages they know and understand. Please be more careful in your work on Japanese entries going forward. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:28, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
Japanese entries in general
[edit]After further inspection, I discovered that almost all of your edits to Japanese entries were problematic. I have reverted, deleted, and otherwise fixed them.
Please gain more facility and competency in the Japanese language before editing such entries. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 22:26, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
Han character template
[edit]Hi, please refrain from modifying the Han character template. Most of the edits you made were reverted. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 01:50, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Please stop disruptive edits
[edit]Your recent set of edits to various Chinese character entries was problematic in various ways, such as by adding entries for languages that do not actually use the character. Examples include 𥥪, 𰜿, and 或.
Please stop editing entries in languages you do not know. If you continue to make edits that other editors find problematic, you may be blocked. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 17:08, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Eirikr, could you please have a look at the recent edits? — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 09:36, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Surjection.
- @The Young Prussian, you continue to demonstrate a lack of understanding of Japanese sources. Your recent edits to Japanese entries such as this one at つ (this was already affricated to /t͡su/ by the Classical period), this one at か (the verb in question is 思ほし召す (omofoshimesu), where auxiliary mesu conjugates as lower bigrade, so your example of 思ほしめせか (omofoshimese ka) conforms with the mizenkei or "irrealis", and does not indicate izenkei or "realis"), or this one at ず (no Japanese source I can find lists any such conjugation forms so, su, or zarazu).
- If you have a source that backs up your edits, include it as a reference.
- If you have no source, stop editing Japanese entries. You clearly don't know what you're doing.
- I have blocked you for a while for your continued disruptive edits and your lack of any meaningful engagement with multiple editors who have tried to communicate with you. Please take this time to learn more about how Wiktionary functions, how to participate as a productive editor, and possibly also how to understand Japanese. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 00:08, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- https://oncoj.ninjal.ac.jp/list_of_words_English.html
- https://kobun.weblio.jp/content/%E3%81%9D
- These are all my sources apart from man'youshuu
- As "zu" is a contraction of "nisu" the loss of the "ni" particle with that "su" is appended to mizenkei because "zu" is nothing more than the honorific form of "nu".
- And 召す is a youdan katsuyou and the verb in question is 思ほ令めす, 思は turns 思ほ due to onbin, 召す is not a jodoushi.
- The classical orthography of kana disavow /t͡su/.
- The irrealis form can never be used independently, unlike the realis form, which can be used in exclamatory sentences, such as "ne" which is the realis form of "zu", there is no chance of 召す being in the irreal form. The Young Prussian(talk) 00:45, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- You are correct about 召す as a yodan conjugation, I was moving too quickly and misread. I apologize for my haste.
- That aside, the sources do not support your other contentions. For instance, そ is not a conjugation of ず, the prohibitionary use arose separately; the Kobun Weblio entry you link to does not derive this from ず either. Classical orthography cannot disavow /t͡su/, as there was no contrasting /tu/ phoneme -- the reconstruction of tu as the phonetic value of つ (tsu) applies to Old Japanese, not to Classical. ず is reconstructed as deriving from にす, but there is no historical attestation of にす, so adding that to any conjugation chart is misleading at best.
- I have no time to go further presently, so I must cut my reply short. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 01:49, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Request reason:
- Setting aside the question of whether "most" of your edits had reliable sources, as noted above, you have been misunderstanding or misusing sources on a number of occasions. The reliability of a source is irrelevant if what it says does not corroborate your edit.
- Since I'm clearly involved, I ping @Fish bowl, Justinrleung, Surjection, Chuck Entz, as others whom I know have interacted with this editor. Your input would be appreciated. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 01:01, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- For clarity's sake, I'll explain that Chuck Entz extended your block indefinitely due to your continued editing during your block, via both anonymous editing and by creating at least one undisclosed alternative account, known as a sock puppet. Continuing to edit while blocked shows an inability to respect the norms of the wiki community, and is grounds for immediate indefinite blocking. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 17:56, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
