Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Vininn126 (talk) 09:53, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Polish Entries

[edit]

You should read Wiktionary:About_Polish if you want to make Polish entries. We have a way of doing them, and the karnąć się breaks many, many rules. One such rule is how reflexive verbs are saved - we use a label, not the title. Also, I marked it for RFV because I don't think it's word. Under usage notes you listed colloquial, but that would be a label. Have you even checked other Polish entries to see what they look like? Vininn126 (talk) 09:55, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh sorry and thank you, I will read how to make entries. I don't know if I checked other entries, but thanks. And "karnąć się" is an actual word, just google "karnąć się". Terrus38 (talk) 08:28, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Silesian

[edit]

The biggest thing to be aware of is that we usually treat Silesian as a separate language on Wiktionary. There's a difference between Silesian Polish and Silesian proper. Vininn126 (talk) 10:37, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I didn't say it's Silesian, someone put it on the site "karnąć". I'm from Pomerania and I know this word from where I live, and I know it's used in some other parts of Poland. 176.118.137.191 10:11, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
