Welcome Message
[edit]Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk) 07:40, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
BabelBox
[edit]Regarding the BabelBox, how much do you know about the Khmer language? --Apisite (talk) 20:28, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
- In your case, add
{{User km-1/2/3/4/5/N}}
Khmer adjectives
[edit]Hi, is there a reason adjectives in Khmer should be defined as verbs? Normally "to be" is not necessary. DAVilla 05:01, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @DAVilla Three reasons. First, 99% of the other adjective entries are already like that, so it should be one way or the other. Second, this is how Headley 1997 (Sealang resource, by far the best and maybe sole reference out there) labels adjectives this way too. Third, adjectives in Khmer are in facts verbs as they don't take a copula. "Stative verbs" would be a better label in fact.
- So it seems former Wiktionary editors heavily drew from H97, distinguished an "Adjective" part of speech for I guess some sort of translingual unity, but still acknowledging its verbal status by adding "to be".
- Ah OK thanks for educating me. DAVilla 06:41, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi,
Are you able to look at អាសហ្កាបាត (ʼaahgaabaat)? Not sure I am able to respell the "-sg-" cluster. Also, any other terms in Category:km:National capitals? --121.221.176.8 22:26, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hello,
- The common spellings for this city are អាសហ្គាបាត, with a subscript គ (like you did in the respelling), or អាស្កាបាត (leaving out the ហ entirely). -hg- output for the first one / - sk- output for the second one are fine. Then, you shouldnt drop the second ា in the respelling, in order to get that front /aa/ sound. A secondary pronunciation trait could be to shorten the first two /aa/'s to /a/, but not sure it's worth getting that far.
- As to any missing capitals, I unfortunately won't have time to check. Already spending a huuuge amount of time trying to correct or complete current entries :)
deleted pages
[edit]In the future, please fix links to pages that you nominate for speedy deletion. There are Khmer translations at broken and my that need to be directed away from now deleted pages. Ultimateria (talk) 04:58, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Ultimateria Thank you. I usually always do, but in this instance, I always thought that red link translations were fine as long as they are actual words and grammatically correct. Which is the case of ដែលបែក and របស់ខ្ញុំ, just that they are not entry-worthy. Sitaron (talk) 05:39, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
- In those cases you can keep the SOP translation, but link to the individual words (so no one tries to create the entry later).
- For example,
* Khmer: {{t|km|[[ដែល]][[បែក]]|tr=daelbaek}}
. Ultimateria (talk) 16:56, 17 September 2021 (UTC)- @Ultimateria Thx, this is what I did after I replied to you earlier :) Sitaron (talk) 18:44, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
