Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Ultimateria (talk) 01:09, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much, Ultimateria. I've been a Wikipedian for some time, and only made a few sporadic edits here. I'm interested in doing more audio recordings, especially since I've had fun contributing to Common Voice.
I appreciate you making a bluelink out of my talk link! = Paul2520 (talk) 01:17, 25 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Welcome & thanks for adding recordings! – Jberkel 11:02, 18 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Jberkel! Feel free to reach out if you have feedback. = Paul2520 (talk) 13:45, 18 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

oo oo aa aa

[edit]

Are ya sure that's what a monkey sounds like? Your "oo oo ah ah" seems very blasé. Equinox 04:45, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Equinox: Well I've been called a monkey's uncle...
I'll make another attempt one of these days! = paul2520 💬 04:50, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Have you tried using this site to make your voice recordings? Rodrigo5260 (talk) 02:09, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rodrigo5260: I have not. I see speed of generating recordings as a benefit, but based on my setup and lack of soundproofing in my office, I do feel strongly about the (small, albeit noticeable) level of cleanup I do to my recordings.
On this note... do you have any feedback about my recordings? Always looking to improve! = paul2520 💬 18:59, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
To me they are okay. Rodrigo5260 (talk) 19:02, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
