For general formatting, you may want to take a look at the above links (specifically the ELE one). But, specifically concerning chaps: First, we much prefer formulaic, brief etymologies over lengthy prose ones. All the etymons which your addition mentioned were already in our existing etymology (and in our preferred format), so there was no reason to keep that. As for the pronunciation, I have left the alternative pronunciation you entered, but I put it inline with the other one. All the rest (when cowboys started wearing chaps, etc.) is not the type of material we want for dictionary entries. The prose concerning the pronunciation and etymology could certainly be dropped on the talk page, if you like. I'll be away for a couple hours, so feel free to give it another shot, if you like, and I'll take a look at it when I get a chance. But, in general, a good rule of thumb to follow is that prose does not go in our main entries. I hope that helps. -Atelaes λάλει ἐμοί 20:06, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Alternative Spellings

Hi, we always put the Alternative spellings in a === Alternative Spellings === header under the language heading. See my edit to lunge line. Thanks for your contributions!
