Creating brand-new entries is a great way to help Wiktionary increase its depth and breadth. Here is how you can start a Wiktionary page:
Starting a page
Simply type the word you would like to create an entry for into the "Search" box (usually displayed on the top right of your screen) and press Enter. This will either bring you to the entry if it already exists, or to a page informing you that no such entry exists. In the latter case, simply click the red link with the word that you are about to edit. An empty edit box will open up where you can type the desired entry content. For the format that we use, see Help:How to edit a page or Wiktionary:Tutorial. When you’re finished, use the "Show preview" button below the box to see what the page will look like. If the result is what you want, then click the "Save page" button at the bottom of the page. Congratulations, you've just created a new entry that is now live, visible, and editable by anyone.
Starting a page from an existing red link
As you read through Wiktionary entries, you can see clickable links in red and blue. The blue ones go to entries that already exist, while the red ones are for entries that haven’t been written yet. If you click on such a red link, the same empty edit box as explained above will pop up.

Starting your own Sandbox
A Sandbox is a useful place to experiment with editing for users with whatever level of experience. There is a common one available to all (Wiktionary:Sandbox), the contents of this page are cleared at regular intervals. Registered users can create their own sandbox by typing Special:MyPage/Sandbox in the Wiktionary Search-box and pressing Go.
